Privacy Policy

This privacy policy applies to the Hacker Camera app (hereby referred to as “Application”) for mobile devices, created by Jane R. (hereby referred to as “Service Provider”) and provided as a free service. The Application is intended for use “AS IS”.
Summary
The Application has no account system, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking of any kind. Photos, videos, sensor readings and settings stay on your device. Exactly one piece of data ever leaves your device, and only if you choose to enable the weather or UV field: your approximate coordinates, sent to a public weather service in order to look up the forecast for your location.
What the Application accesses, and why
Camera and microphone. Used to run the viewfinder, take photos and record video, and — if you enable the ambient noise field — to measure a sound level. Camera frames and audio are processed on the device. Nothing is uploaded. The noise measurement produces only a decibel number; no audio is recorded, stored or transmitted for that field.
Photo library. Used to save the photos and videos you capture, and to display your recent captures inside the built-in archive. The Application reads and writes only through the system photo library, which remains under your control.
Location. Used to display GPS coordinates, place name, altitude, speed and heading on screen, and to write those values into the EXIF and QuickTime metadata of the media you capture. If you enable the weather, temperature or UV index field, the coordinates are also sent to the Open-Meteo public weather service (open-meteo.com) to retrieve the forecast for that position. No identifier, device information or account is attached to that request. Location fields are off by default and the permission is requested only when you turn one of them on.
Motion and fitness. Used for the compass, magnetometer, barometric pressure and today’s step count. These values are read on the device and displayed on screen. They are not uploaded.
Health. If you enable the body fields, the Application reads — read-only — the most recent heart rate, blood oxygen, heart rate variability and body temperature samples from the Health app, typically written there by an Apple Watch. These values are displayed on screen and, if you enable the burn-in option, drawn into your own photos and videos, which remain on your device. The Application never writes to the Health app and never transmits health data anywhere.
Bluetooth. If you enable the nearby-device count, the Application scans for Bluetooth LE advertisements in order to count how many devices are broadcasting nearby. Device identifiers are held in memory only long enough to avoid double counting, are discarded after about twenty seconds, are never stored to disk and never leave the device. The Application does not connect to, pair with, or identify any of those devices.
Network information. The link type (Wi-Fi, 5G, LTE and so on) and the name of the Wi-Fi network you are currently joined to may be displayed as data fields. iOS does not permit an app to scan for nearby Wi-Fi networks, and the Application does not attempt to. This information is displayed only and is not transmitted.
Settings. Your field selections and preferences are stored locally on the device using the system preferences store.
Data the Service Provider collects
None. The Service Provider operates no server for this Application, receives no data from it, and has no ability to access your photos, videos, location, health data or settings.
Third parties
The only external service contacted by the Application is Open-Meteo, and only when you enable the weather, temperature or UV index field. The request contains your approximate coordinates and nothing else. Open-Meteo’s own privacy practices are described at open-meteo.com. The Application contains no analytics SDK, no advertising SDK and no crash reporting service.
Data retention and deletion
Photos and videos you capture are stored in your device’s photo library and are governed by your own device settings and iCloud configuration; you can delete them at any time from the built-in archive or from the system Photos app. Application settings are removed when you delete the Application. Because the Service Provider stores nothing, there is no server-side data to request or delete.
Your choices
Every telemetry field is off by default apart from the app name, the clock and the exposure readout. You may turn any field on or off at any time in the app’s data settings, and you may revoke camera, microphone, photo library, location, motion, Bluetooth or Health access at any time in the iOS Settings app. Revoking a permission disables the corresponding fields; the rest of the Application continues to work. Burning data into captures and writing GPS to metadata can each be switched off independently.
Children
The Application is not directed at children under the age of 13, and the Service Provider does not knowingly collect any information from children.
Security
Because data is neither collected nor transmitted to the Service Provider, the primary protection of your information is your device itself. The weather lookup is made over an encrypted HTTPS connection.
Changes to this policy
This privacy policy may be updated from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with a revised “last updated” date. Continued use of the Application is regarded as acceptance of the changes.
